Editing ''your own place page'' is a great way to get a feel for the system.
With the relaunch of the wiki, one of the big goals was to update the [[atlas]], filtering out places which are no longer active and generally updating all pages. Of the '''{{#ask:[[Category:Places]]|format=count}} places''' in the wiki, '''{{#ask:[[Category:Imported places]]|format=count}}''' have not been edited since they were imported (listed in [[:Category:Imported places]]). We need to go through all of these pages and ''validate'' them. Until they are validated, <u>they will not appear on the map or show up in most place listings.</u>.

If you manage a riso somewhere, check and see if your space already has a page on the wiki! Use the search bar at the the top of the page to search for your press/printshop/studio name.
* Instructions for validation are here: [[Help:Validating a place]].
# If the page already exists, click the "Edit with form" button at the top of the page.
* Some regional working pages are available here: [[:Category:Regional working pages]].
# To create a new place page you'll want to use [[Form:Place]], typing in the name of your studio, and then clicking "Create or edit."

Once you're in the form for the page, you can change the details of the place, or use the big free text box at the end of the page to edit the article content.

# If you add <u>coordinates</u>, your place will show up on the [[Atlas|atlas]]!
# For the <u>article</u>, try adding some text explaining your studio!
#* See that <code><nowiki>{{Inventory}}</nowiki></code> text in there? That invokes the [[Template:Inventory]] component, which displays a visual list of the inks and machines you selected.
#* You can add a citation to some other page (maybe the about page on your site) if you want, by including the link in <code><nowiki><ref></ref></nowiki></code> tags (for example: <code><nowiki><ref>https://perfectly-acceptable.com/print/</ref></nowiki></code>). Then at the end of the free text/article box, add <code><nowiki>{{References}}</nowiki></code>
#* Generally for place pages, there's some kind of introduction, then people might have subheadings to talk about different topics (e.g. <code><nowiki>== History ==</nowiki></code>), then they have the <code><nowiki>{{Inventory}}</nowiki></code> template and the <code><nowiki>{{References}}</nowiki></code> template (if there were citations on the page).
# Once you're done editing, click "Save changes" and your new/updated page will be saved to the wiki!
#* You can optionally provide a little descriptions of the edits you made in the "Summary" box before saving—this will be saved along with the record of your edits, and can be useful when looking through the history of a page (but is not strictly necessary).
#* If you have "Watch this page" selected you'll get a little notification (when logged into the wiki) whenever this page is edited in the future.
# If you want to check out the other ways of editing a page, try the "Edit" button (for the Visual Editor) or "Edit source" button (for the wikitext editor), both in the top bar of the page.

For more information on places, please see [[Help:Places]]. Also feel free to use the [[Atlas|atlas]] to look at other place pages for ideas! (Though many are also mostly blank pages, waiting to be updated.)

Thanks for helping build out the wiki! There's always lots to be done (especially after the migration from the old site)—this page provides an overview of some of the main tasks we need help with.

Getting started
First things first, check out Help:Quickstart to setup an account and learn more about this wiki and how to edit it.
Update your place in the atlas

Editing your own place page is a great way to get a feel for the system. Follow the instructions on Help:Places to setup or edit the page for your studio/printshop.

Detailed instructions are listed in the "Walkthrough" section.

Ongoing projects

Validating imported places

With the relaunch of the wiki, one of the big goals was to update the atlas, filtering out places which are no longer active and generally updating all pages. Of the 1090 places in the wiki, 750 have not been edited since they were imported (listed in Category:Imported places). We need to go through all of these pages and validate them. Until they are validated, they will not appear on the map or show up in most place listings..

Editing & rewriting resources

The original wiki had a number of tutorials, files, and other resources written by users. These have more or less been archived on the Wayback Machine. They couldn't be automatically imported because they each have fairly complex and unique formats. We are manually rewriting these into the voice of the new wiki—updating their content, merging similar resources, and adding references along the way.

Adding upcoming events

The Events page lists out all the upcoming events that risographers are tabling at, organizing, and participating in—but it only reflects the events which are contributed to it! If you know of any upcoming events in your region, please add them to the list!

Structural development

The above is editorial work, but there's a lot of architectural stuff we're working on for the wiki too (much more slowly). A list of the heavier work planned for the wiki can be found on the Stencil:Roadmap. This sort of work will involve a lot more knowledge of wikitext, how to use and edit templates, and potentially some Lua scripting.

Right now the development team for the wiki is User:Robertbaxter and User:IssuePress—but we're welcome to other contributors!
